Mechanical Engineering Project Leader

Successful candidates will use their engineering background along with provided training and self-guided learning to design combustion systems for heat treat equipment. Applicants must be able to lead and motivate a technical design team in the completion of projects that meet or exceed the customer’s expectations, within the budgeted time and cost. Candidates must be able to conceptualize large mechanical assemblies consisting of many parts. Responsibilities for projects begin at the pre-sales stage and continue into field commissioning.

Duties include:

  • Conceptualizing large complicated machines based on incomplete or undefined sketches, drawing concepts or written specifications
  • Ability to understand project scope and commercial contracts
  • Project planning & scheduling of engineering, manufacturing and install and commissioning activities of multi-faceted projects
  • Combustion system design - component selection, design for installation, design for maintenance, ensure compliance with national and international design codes (e.g. CSA, NFPA,…), developing control system outlines for electrical engineering.
  • Detailed calculations in engineering principles in the following areas of design – Thermodynamics, heat transfer calculations, combustion systems, mechanical drive, piping, pneumatics, hydraulics, stress analysis, structural design and material selection
  • Preparation & checking of engineering system drawings including welding notes
  • Proven numerical analysis capability – experience with CFD software considered an asse
  • Experience with 3D design software (Solid Works) and 2D design software (Autocad) considered an asset
  • Detailed machine specification writing & material demand releases using ERP system
  • Sub-contractor liaising and report writing
  • Having a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and manufacturability
  • Capable of representing the company well in customer meetings

Applicants must be willing and able to travel to the field to assist in directing contractors during install or commissioning of his/her projects. 

Qualifications for the position are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • Desire to attain P-Eng. designation
  • Engineering experience in manufacturing or machine design an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
  • Outstanding team working and organizational skills
  • Practical understanding of cost benefit analyses, equipment maintainability and operability
  • Creativity and  flexibility to adapt to constantly changing requirements
  • Eligibility to hold a Canadian passport and willingness to travel the world
  • Valid un-restricted driver’s license
  • Proficient in engineering software such as Solidworks and AutoCAD as well as typical software like MS Project, MS Excel, MS Word, and document management systems
