Modular Heat Treatment System

CAN-ENG has developed a modular heat treatment system that will solution treat, precision air quench (PAQ™) and artificial age, structural automotive castings. CAN-ENG’s Modular Aluminum Heat Treatment System is designed for flexible expansions that allow manufacturers to respond to changing design specifications and recipes.

CAN-ENG technology reduces energy consumption and works effectively in situations that require a smaller equipment footprint. CAN-ENG delivers more uniform properties across each casting, tighter distortion control, multiple cooling rates on individual parts, process cost control to exacting tolerances and predictable metallurgical results.

CAN-ENG engineers allocated significant resources and careful consideration in the design of the carrier systems used in our Modular Aluminum Heat Treatment Systems for Aluminum Automotive Structural Components. The relationship between structural component, carrier and automated furnace handling are carefully considered and CFD modeled to achieve the required heating and quenching uniformity expectations unique to each load.

Depending upon the requirements of the part, processes may include T5 artificially aged only, T6 solution treated, quenched and artificially aged and T7 solution treated, quenched and artificially over aged. Process uniformity and the elimination of part distortion are the key drivers for CAN-ENG’s Modular Aluminum Heat Treatment System.

Precision Air Quenching

Dimensional stability, reduced residual stress levels and enhanced mechanical property levels are optimized in CAN-ENG’s Aluminum Heat Treatment Systems through our proven Precision Air Quench (PAQ™) technology. PAQ™ systems can be integrated in-line or off-line for flexible modular processing.

The PAQ™ systems integrate a unique combination of recirculating air chambers, distribution nozzles, dampers and directional ductwork that uniformly delivers conditioned quench media leading to repeatable and uniform property and dimensional results. Quench parameters are developed for each component and once validated can be integrated as part of the product recipe.

Basketless Heat Treatment System

CAN-ENG’s Basketless Heat Treatment System (BHTS®) is the industry standard for the processing of aluminum intensive automotive components. Product is transferred through the Heat Treat system without the use of baskets or carriers. Eliminating baskets has greatly reduced electrical usage and energy consumption required to process parts.

Manufacturers have experienced a 40% minimum reduction in fuel consumption when compared to similar solution treated and aged components processed in a conventional roller hearth system. As a result of reduced fuel consumption, CO2 emissions are also reduced.
